A Midsummer's Day Scheme

He was far more curious about the peculiar daughter of the man who was riding across his estate at the present, no doubt reckless and bold in her riding and likely a masterful sight while she did so.

Synopsis

While visiting Sir Bramwell's estate, Hattie hatches a plan to get everything she wants and more.

Thoughts & Feelings

You guys! I have offically found my second favorite novella in this anthology! I absolutely LOVED A Midsummer's Day Scheme from beginning to end. I read it in a single evening because I couldn't stay away from it for very long.

Our leading couple, Hattie and Sir Bramwell, are perfection. I loved how head strong and determined Hattie was. She is a go getter and puts herself to work on educating herself and creating a future that she wants. I love the balance that Rebecca Connolly was able to give us within Hattie's personality. She is a force to be reckoned with but not at all snobby, entitled, or annoying. I love that we got to see moments of embarrassment/small regret from her as well as defining moments of standing up for herself and what she wants. How Rebecca pulled all of this off in just over fifty pages is pure magic.

I can't leave out our main man, Sir Bramwell, because he is also quite fantastic. Sir Bramwell Lowery is a second generation title holder and did not grow up with the finery and station that he now has. He is a hardworker and a go getter in his own right. He does not have time for frivolity and "entertaining" society, as he states numerous times in the story. Although he comes off as a bit of a grump we quickly learn that he is really quite a softy with a big heart. I LOVED how intrigued he was with Hattie and how much of those inner thoughts we got to see. Once again pure perfection.

I won't say anything else to avoid the risk of giving something away but you have to read this novella. It is seriously so good!
