thoughts & feelings
Friends I bring you another travel book! The Hedonist's Guide collection has been one of the biggest surprises for me. I was not sure about these books but vowed to give them a go. Then they sat on my nightstand for a few months...close to a year...maybe a little over a year. And in a quest to clear my nightstand I determined to read them and I am so glad I did.
The Hedonist's Guides are a fun way to learn about other places while looking at some stunning photographs. They all have a similar layout, breaking the location down into smaller sections. In Stunning Iceland there are seven sections: the West, the Westfjords, the North, the Highlands, the Eastfjords, the South, and Rykjavik. Each section begins with a brief history of that area before breaking it down further into the essentials, understanding, and then providing a few more details about a what you can see and experience. Since I had very limited prior knowledge of Iceland I learned so much about the history as well as their seasons, livelihoods, and what their landscape is like.
Like in Magical Venice, my favorite feature of Stunning Iceland is the maps and the photography. Since Iceland is quite a bit bigger than Venice the "trip maps" are based on a four day adventure in each of the seven sections. It was so much fun to see and learn about Iceland, it truly is stunning.
