Wuthering Hounds

As Clementine looked at him more closely, she realized he was the embodiment of every tortured hero in her beloved gothic novels. Her heart tripped in delight; a deadly storm, a secluded inn on the moors, a brooding gentleman innkeeper-what more could she possibly desire?

Synopsis

Clementine and Mr. Baskerville are stranded in the moors, finding love amidst a most unexpected circumstance.

Thoughts & Feelings

This novella is a little different from the others, that I have read, in the Horses, Hounds, and Happily Ever After series because of the timeline. The entire story occurs in two days! It was absolutely fantastic and I was hooked from the very beginning. Just know that it moves very quickly and you will need time to sit and read the story in it's entirety because you won't be able to put it down.

All of the characters were phenomially written. I loved each of them so much, even the awkward ones, and was completely invested in their lives and the overall story. Nancy Campbell Allen did an amazing job giving each character a very unique and distinct personality. I immediately felt like I had known each of the main characters for years, and I was greatly intrigued with the Talts and Bertram couples.

I love that Wuthering Hounds had a bit of mystery to it. Some of you may know that I am a complete chicken so I love when authors can give us mystery without being scary. Ethan and Clementine's curiosity about the Talts and Bertram couples only made me more curious! I mean why would an author focus on the strange tension at dinner if there wasn't something to it? Right?! It made the scenes with all of them so much fun and I found myself picking apart all of the sentences and interactions in the hopes of figuring out what was going on. Investigating with Ethan and Clementine was so much fun and made me feel like I was in the book in a way. Kind of like a fly on the wall perspective.

Even with the strangeness and mystery woven throughout this story there were plenty of moments that made me giggle. Clementine's flair for the dramatic makes her perspective so much fun to read and her interactions with Ethan are quite witty. You will also love her little Yorkshire terrier, Heathcliff. He causes so much mischief and you can't help but giggle.
